SINKING PRESENT AND THE DREAM

Graduation project at Gerrit Rietveld Academie
Project guided by @Tomas Dirrix

In 2035 summer, the North Pole is expected to be ice-free.
Melting glaciers in the N.P are increasing the global sea level.
Sea level increase in 2050: 35.5~66cm / 2100: 84~100cm increase.

Recent 30 years of flood defense work by
the Dutch can handle around 40cm sea-level rise.
Reinforcing the water defense systems is an ongoing project in the Netherlands.
However, are they tackling the problem the righ way?
When a problem appears we take into action, and when another comes along we try and fix the problem.

A constant struggle between the mankind and nature.
Repetitive behaviors we take towards natrual disasters were used as a metaphor for the project.
Where frozen ice bricks are stacked every day making a wall.
First what seems stirdy and strong melts and breaks down,
and another stack of bricks are builted to make a wall again.
